I am very excited. I am going on a trip to the country of Egypt, which is in the northern part of the continent of Africa. I will be back before too long to share my adventures with everyone! While I am in Egypt, I will be meeting with other principals and visiting schools to see how children learn and teachers teach in a country so far away from the United States! The children in Egypt all speak Arabic when they start school, but begin to learn English as their second language in the first grade. I will also be visiting colleges, museums and some remarkable ancient sites, like the Great Pyramids of Giza and the temple of the mysterious Sphinx! Be sure to scroll to the bottom of this page to see some interesting photos and read some fascinating facts!

Meet Daisy!!

Hello...meet DAISY!!!  She was my personal guide to the pyramids!  Daisy got down on all four knees in order for me to climb on to the saddle on her back. When she stood up, it felt like I was going up in an elevator!  It is VERY high on top of a camel's back, and the ground looks really far away!  Riding a camel doesn't feel like riding a horse at all, it is a very smooth ride but you have to be extra careful to stay balanced on top of her big hump!  How do you think I got off of Daisy's back?

This is what it looked like when I was sitting up in the saddle!  What a unique view of the world...from over the head of a camel!

  1. Dear Mrs. Napolitano,

How did it feel to ride a camel? Were you amazed and excited? Brian thinks that the camel bends down so you can climb off. The class agrees with him. Most of the class would like to ride a camel. A few people rode a camel when the circus was in Middletown. Do the kids ride camels too?

We were wondering about the school you went to see.
    1. Was it small like Truman Moon?
    2. Do they have specials? Do they have a library?
    3. How do the kids get to school? Do they ride busses?
    4. What are the classrooms like?
    5. Did they get to read our letter?

We can't wait to hear about your trip. Have a safe flight home and we hope you have a warm coat when you get off the plane!!

  2. Dear Mrs. Napolitano,
We enjoyed looking at the pictures and reading all the information you sent us about Egypt.
Thank you for sharing your experiences with us. Mrs. Chinchilla borrowed a book from the library. The book told us many things you had already mentioned like how long was the trip to Egypt from New York and also mentioned the cities of Cairo and Alexandria.
Some of us would like to live in Egypt because we like hot weather but some others would prefer to live here because they have the chance to enjoy both the hot and cold weather. John said that it was very interesting to learn about other people.
We have a question “Why do they wear long dresses and sweaters if it is hot?
We will be waiting for the pictures of your trip to the pyramids.

  3. Dear Mrs. Napolitano,

We like the picture of you riding the camel. Javano and Cooper think you should just jump off the camel. David thinks that it would be safe if the camel bent down for you.

None of us have ever ridden a camel, but many of us have ridden other animals. Javano, David, Melisa and Edelicia rode a horse at the fair. Miss Walter rode an elephant.

Everyone thinks that it would be really fun to ride a camel. We hope that you enjoyed your trip.

    See you soon.

  4. Dear Mrs. Napolitano,
How was your ride on Daisy? She is a cute camel. Are you going to ride on a camel again? It looked really awesome to ride a camel!
We were wondering what the chain on Daisy's neck is for. How many camels were there in your group?
How many teachers did you see in the school you visited? How many children were at the school? Did you learn any of their names? Do the children wear different clothes than us? Do they wear clothing with characters on it? Do they wear sneakers?
We hope you had a good trip. We have enjoyed your blog and we can't wait to see you!
We wish you a Merry Christmas.

  5. How did you get off the camel? Here is what we think:
Passion thinks you climbed down the camel.
    Shaquan thinks you jumped.
Nicholas thinks the camel layed down for you to climb off.
Emani C thinks you climbed half of the way down then jumped.
Alicia thinks you jumped off the camel.
Hazel thinks the camel put her bottom down then you slid off of her.
Simran thinks the camel sat so you could get off.
Zavier thinks there were foot things for you to climb off.
    Are we correct?
